Says there are more 9 out of 10 games on 360 than PS3 and Wii combined.
Microsoft has responded to May US sales figures by claiming victory in the GTA 4 platform battle.
It said GTA 4 on 360 outsold the same game on the PS3 by a ratio of 2:1. 871,000 copies of the 360 version of GTA 4 were sold in the US in May. "Xbox 360 continues to lead the industry with a record-breaking software attach rate of 7.7," it said.
MS also said 360 games averaged a higher score than games on other platforms. It said it had 12 games with a Metacritic score of 90 or higher, "more than PS3 and Wii combined".
MS also pointed out that $110 million in May third party game sales means the 360 "continues to move more third party games than any other console".
It said 21 of the 25 top selling third party franchise titles with releases this generation sell best on Xbox 360. "Eighteen of those franchises were previous best-sellers, and two were exclusives, on the PlayStation 2," it said.
MS closed its note by teasing gamers with the promise of some surprises at E3. It said: "Last month we showcased an all-star line-up of games including Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Banjo and Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Viva Piñata 2 and Too Human. We still have quite a few aces left up our sleeve; see you at E3 next month!"

Well they would wouldn't they, they are kings of spin and will say anything to make the numbers look good - even when they finish LAST in hardware sales for May!
It's easy to claim hollow victories about 3rd-Party data and attach rates for this generation - because they started this generation one year ahead of everyone else!!! Anyone can claim to have won a race if they set out the day before it takes place!!! All they are basically saying is "look at us, our customers bought some games in the first year of release".
Plain facts about GTAIV - It shifted more PS3 consoles than X360 consoles in May and the PS3 had a higher attach rate for GTAIV than X360 - in other words all other things being equal the PS3 version would have outsold X360. If you ask me, behind closed doors MS would be pretty annoyed at blowing $50M+ on that result, especially as the DLC has been delayed again - right into gamings busiest period! This could be the biggest waste of money since HD-DVD paid Paramount for exclusivity!!!
I love the way Xbot fanboys call the PS3 a failure, even though it is likely to overtake the 360 by the end of the year and even though the PS3 has been selling way faster since release than the X360 did since release - anyone can pretend they're winning when you don't compare like with like!
Anyone wondering how successful the X360 really is look at the GLOBAL sales from launch to 18 months, then overlay that with the PS3's global sales from launch to 18 months - SIDE BY SIDE. Now think of the 360's launch advantages: it came out first, it came out with no next-gen competition, it came out with a lot of big name games and it came out at an average price. Now think of the PS3's launch disadvantages: it was delayed by 4 months outside the US & Japan, it had a torrent of negative press, it was high priced, it had an uncertain optical format, it had a lack of games, it suffered from poor ports, it had big competition from the Wii and 360.
So tell me why people still think the PS3 is a failure, when despite all the 360's launch advantages and despite all the PS3's launch disadvantages the PS3 is and has been CONTINUALLY OUTSELLING THE 360 WHEN COMPARING LIKE WITH LIKE.
To put it into numbers, the PS3 is approximately 3 million unit sales BETTER than the 360 at the same point in it's life cycle.
In summary: MS execs are full or ****, behind the spin the Xbox business must be losing a fortune - expensive warranty claims, alliances with failed disc formats, silly money to pay off developers for exclusives, etc etc. No wonder they charge customers to play online! I wonder how much longer they will go on before thinking you know what, Sega had the right idea...

Microsoft are indeed full of it, they had ages where they pretty much the only next-gen machine so have a bigger market to sell to. If you have more machines in homes and a big game like GTA comes out then of course your gonna sell more copies of that than the competition thats common sense not news. what would be news is to know how many people who brought a Xbox when they first came out later went on to buy a PS3 higher than vice versa i would think

MS is full of BS. The only thing MS Xbox 360 is good for is games and that will also soon change when developers start making games utilizing the full potential of the PS3 like Metal Gear solid 4 which moved consoles like crazy. There is not a single PS3 MGS4 bundle where u even get the DS3 controller and a free download of the game PAIN. left out there. Everything is sold out. It was poor on Sony's part to not expect that such a high profile launch would mean they would need lot more quantity of the bundle and their marketing and production team did screw up in underestimating the demand of the new bundle.
But all that apart, it is obvious that there is no way an XBOX game on its current processor and Limited capacity of a Dual layer DVD can produce a visually stunning game like MGS4 with uncompressed lossless audio in TRU HD. Apart from that PS3 is much more than games, its an entertainment powerhouse with Blu Ray playback and support for the latest HDMI 2.0 std and the best HD player in the market in both audio and video processing. The Xbox just cannot compete with that and if you also look at that crappy power supply which XBOX ships with which is downright ugly and compare it to the elegance of having a PS3 in the living room, ppl take notice.
One critical thing to point is if PS3 was launched before Xbox 360 then it would have been the biggest failure of all time with no way to compete as developers would have coded for PS3 architecture from beginning and would have by 1yr made unbelievable titles which would have been impossible to recreate for the PS3.
