The Buzz: US magazine editor says Microsoft will make a $1 billion move for the video game and middleware specialist in the summer.
According to wral.com, GamePro magazine assistant editor Travis Moses believes Microsoft will purchase Epic Games this summer for the tidy sum of $1 billion.
"Microsoft will buy Epic Games for $1 billion this summer," wrote Moses. "Microsoft has lots of cash on hand, and in buying Epic, could collect royalty rights for Unreal technology across other platforms."
Epic Games is famous for the creation of the Unreal Engine, now in its third version, and the multi-million selling Unreal and Gears of War franchises.
Moses also notes that the recent acquisition of BioWare Pandemic by EA and the Activision Vivendi merger make Microsoft's acquisition of Epic Games even more likely.
Microsoft is expected to make some major announcements concerning its gaming business at GDC later this week, but we don't think we'll be hearing anything regarding the acquisition of Epic Games.

Won't happen trust me Epic Games knows better. And even if Microsoft manager's to loose 1 Billion more it won't help the dying Xbox 360. Microsoft enter the gaming industry to lose everything.

lmao, this smacks of desperation in microshafts corner! epic revealing that the ps3 is no problem to develope for has put the willys up them. so what do they do? instead of making decent games (that arent space based american RPGs) they decide to buy the companies that make great ps3 games! well i hope sony buy capcom, namco/bandai, konami and other such develping studios. cos as we all know, nobody makes games like the japanese!

there not buying a game from epic antard, microsoft wants to buy out epic. So it becomes their own, because epic does Gears of war and UT 3. But hasn't Epic said they want more than just 1 billion dollars?

Why would microshit buy Epic Games? I wouldn't even pay $10 for that piece of shit company. They have no support for their games, nor care that people's CD Key's get stolen so easily and yet they do nothing but tell you to buy another game. What a ripoff. Microsoft, you can do better than that.
