The latest game in the FIFA series will arrive in Europe on September 22, sporting a new online Interactive Leagues mode.
EA has announced that FIFA 07 will launch on all current home consoles, handhelds and PC on September 22, 2006. Versions for mobile phones will follow on September 29. Missing from the line-up is an Xbox 360 version (and we assume PS3 and Wii versions), but this is believed to be due a few weeks after the current-gen versions.
New this year is the Interactive Leagues feature. This online mode will apparently let you play as your favourite team, going head to head against your real life rivals, in matches that take place as they happen in real life. The aggregate results of everyone's matches determine the overall league standings.
"We are still innovating the gameplay on our current-gen game, and this year, the new online Interactive Leagues will bring together football fans from around the world and allow them to experience the glory and shame of their clubs, 24/7," said Joe Booth, producer of FIFA 07.
The game engine and AI have been overhauled, meaning you have to make smarter decisions while on the pitch. Ball control has also been refined, giving you the ability to fire in more precise shots, more powerful shots, and apply spin to set-pieces. The Manager Mode hasn't gone without an update, and will feature smarter AI, and more realistic player values and wages. If you buy the game for the PSP and PlayStation 2, you'll also be able to transfer progress from one system to the other, meaning you can progress in your career no matter where you are.
There's no news on the next-gen versions of the game, but the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance, PSP and PC will receive the game on September 22.
